The Verso awarded a 5A ODEP rating

3 July 2020

Innovative Design Orthopaedics (IDO) is proud to announce that the VERSO® shoulder joint replacement has recently been awarded by the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) in the UK a 5A ODEP Rating.

The 5A ODEP rating of the Verso® Reverse Shoulder replacement with uncemented Metaphyseal fixation (Metal short Metaphyseal Shells combinations/ Metal Baseplate / Glenospheres and Polyethylene Liners) has been approved at the latest ODEP shoulder meeting published on the 30th June 2020.

Shoulder ratings are provided at benchmarks of 3, 5, 7 and 10 years of follow-up alongside an ‘A’ or ‘B’ rating dependent upon the strength of evidence and quality of the data provided. ODEP ratings provide a simple, independently verified assessment of the performance of an implant, assessed against clinical best practice guidelines. (ODEP ratings can be found on odep.org.uk).

Innovative Design Orthopaedics is proud to remark that the VERSO® has been used in the UK health system since 2014 and it has also been successfully distributed and implanted in other major international markets including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Australia, Israel, Greece, S. Africa and others.
The Verso® is currently the only Reverse Shoulder Replacement system with short metaphyseal (stemless) fixation to attain a 5A ODEP rating. This achievement, together with the increased awareness of the system and its acceptance by leading surgeons around the world, acknowledges the outstanding clinical results that the system has enjoyed.
The Verso® system was launched on the market in 2005 and was actively marketed from 2014 following its acquisition by Innovative Design Orthopaedics. A Stemmed Reverse version, designed mainly for fractures and revisions is also available from IDO, but due to limited use not yet ripe for ODEP rating.
“I am gratified that the Verso® Reverse Metaphyseal implant has achieved this ODEP rating” said Professor Ofer Levy, the designer of the Verso®. “It reflects the history of highly successful outcomes that have been experienced by both me and by many surgeons and colleagues who have now been using the Verso® for many years. Most importantly it has given me great pleasure to witness the satisfaction of patients”.

“The news that the Verso® prosthesis has now been awarded an ODEP 5A rating comes as no surprise to me.
I am delighted that ODEP recognise what myself and other Verso® users know already. The rating, I hope, will help reassure patients and surgeons in their decision-making process for shoulder arthroplasty. Since I first started using the Verso® back in 2009, I have seen a very significant improvement in outcomes for my reverse shoulder replacement patients, with happier patients having better shoulder movement and significantly better function. The bone preserving concept of the Verso® short metaphyseal prosthesis, is amongst the best with the longest proven track record solution for reverse shoulder replacement on the market, and preserve maximal bone for any future need” – said Mr Jai Relwani – Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon & Clinical Lead – Shoulder & Elbow Service, East Kent Hospitals University Foundation NHS Trust.

“We are pleased to have received the ODEP 5A rating,” said Gadi Sonnino, Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Design Orthopaedics (IDO).  “This rating provides yet another independent verification of our design philosophy on metaphyseal stemless reverse shoulder replacement, with long term performance where it counts the most – in patients. We hope that this 5A rating will provide more confidence to surgeons that are considering offering our unique prosthesis to their patients”.
