Malcolm Hughes Verso Shoulder Operation 7th March 2013

I had my ‘Verso’ shoulder replacement operation on 7th March 2013 at RBH.

I was discharged from the hospital early on the following evening, 8th March.

After two weeks, resting at home and doing minimal shoulder exercises as instructed I returned to hospital for my first check-up. Following that checkup
I started fortnightly physiotherapy sessions at RBH. Six weeks later I moved from one-to-one physio’ sessions to the ‘shoulder group’, where I
was challenged to undertake a wider variety of shoulder exercises alongside other RBH patients recovering from shoulder operations.
At my last physio’ appointment I was given the green light to start playing golf again, I didn’t have to be told twice, I couldn’t wait to start playing golf again.

The following day I booked a lesson with the club’s pro’ as a warm-up for my first round of golf which would be the real test of my new shoulder.

The golf pro’ was amazed at the range of movement and strength in my shoulder and kept asking how long ago it was that I had had my shoulder operation. It was exactly 3 months to the day. I felt great, my shoulder worked perfectly, in fact I didn’t even have to change my stance or swing.

I played my first round a full18 holes the next day. No problems with my shoulder and a pretty good score considering I hadn’t played for three months. I knew I could do better so I kept on pushing. Within a fortnight I was back to playing three rounds of golf a week. I play in the club’s ‘roll-up’ and therefore find myself playing with a different group of players each time I play. In the beginning the players always asked about my shoulder operation but since I’ve started winning the money they just want to know my surgeon’s telephone number to see if he can improve their swing too.

So, thank-you Prof. Levy and thank-you ‘Shoulder Team’ for doing such a good job on my shoulder, it hasn’t felt this good for many years.
